2017 12 04-09 North Carolina to South Carolina

Monday December 4, 2017

Last hike at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area Campground. Tori just can not resist wandering into creeks even though the water has to be colder than she is used to. Dakota is hiding behind Bob's legs. She is more reluctant to getting her feet wet. Maybe she needs to be trained to swim like Tori.

Our last morning at Lake Powhatan. This has been one of the nicest places we have camped in so far. It was quiet, had lots of hiking trails, some paved, some natural. It was close enough to town to get supplies but far enough away to avoid town if we wanted.

Arrival at Lake Greenwood State Park near Ninety-Six, South Carolina. It was cloudy and expecting rain so unexpected "issues" are not a good thing. Our first attempt to park in our slot certainly did not go well. After disconnecting, the Autolevel had our door-side tires off the pavement. The slant and curve did not meet our requirements for a big rig. That means we had to reconnect, drive back out to the office, find a new slot that we can actually fit in, drive back to the camping area and park. The slot above was ever so slightly better than the original and it still took us almost an hour to get the RV positioned. Check out the stairs and how we had to gerry rig them because the extensions still could not reach to the ground. May not be the safest landing but we had literally run out of time...and patience.

One of the Great Blue Herons that fish the bay near our camp site.

Take off and landing several time each day.

Cloudy today but no rain was scheduled until tonight. A long hike with the dogs. They really love all the new smells. The trails are very well maintained and easy to follow. It's a good thing we took such a long walk.

Last night it started to rain. Lots of rain but no snow. The rain continued all day. Luckily we have Netflix. Binge watching "The Crown" may not have been the best plan but it got us through the day.

Rained all day. I had laundry and vacuuming to keep me occupied. Bob had his own project to rewire the audio control.

Cold today but finally it stopped raining and the sun came out for the first time in almost a week. Between the cloudy days and rainy ones, it was nice to have some sunshine even if it did come out late in the day. The Lake Greenwood is rather large at just under 18 square miles, formed by a hydroelectric dam and this is only one of several small bays.

Time to get out the heavy winter coats but only because the sun didn't come out until 4pm so the sun was not very warm. Temperature was 39 and going down to 26 degrees. (Don't forget to bring the water hose in tonight.) The area we left last Tuesday near Asheville was hit with between 8 and 15 inches of snow.

This give you some perspective of how high the camping slot is off the road.
