During our stay in Clarkdale we were surprised one morning to see a family of javelina (also known as Peccaries), a medium-sized pig-like hoofed animal found throughout Central and South America and in the southwestern area of North America. They can by up to 51 inches long and weight up to 88 pounds. Social creatures that live in herds, they eat roots, grubs and a variety of foods. A group of javelina that travel and live together is called a "squadron".
